Our Beliefs

OUR MISSION
The mission of The Presbyterian Church at Pluckemin is to celebrate, explore, proclaim and share God's reconciling love in Jesus Christ and in all life.  To that end, we are a community of faith, worship, growth and service.  Our hope is that others, within and beyond our community, are served, healed, and reconciled to God and to one another.

Pluckemin is one of more than 10,000 congregations of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  As part of the PC (USA):

We are Christians.  We believe that God is best described as a trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We also believe that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully human, and is alive today. Along with all other Christian communities, we recognize the Nicene and Apostles Creeds as two of our core statements of faith.

We are Protestants.  Following the theological lead of John Calvin, we believe that

  • Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation.
  • Faith in Christ, not our good deeds, is what allows us to be saved.
  • The Bible is the ultimate authority on matters of faith.
  • Baptism and the Lord's Supper (Eucharist) are the two means of grace that Jesus gave us. Through them we receive assurance of salvation.

We are Reformed.  We are part of the Reformed family of faith, which includes the Reformed Church in America and the Dutch Reformed Church, as well as Presbyterians, including our denomination, the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. (PCUSA)
